Preparing For Your Session...

Before Your Session:
Beginning a few days before your session, you should refrain from eating red meats, processed foods and carbonated beverages. Then, do not eat during the two hours before your therapy, so as to reduce the amount of undigested food in the stomach. It is also a good idea to drink a green vegetable juice or chlorophyll drink before your colonic, if possible.

After Your Session:
When you go home, take a hot detoxifying bath in Epsom Salts and water to enhance the lymphatic drainage of the colon area. This will relax the muscles of the colon and allow the body to release additional toxic debris. You may want to have another green vegetable drink before retiring for the evening as well. You can have solid food after your colonic, but if you feel like vegetables or something light, be sure to follow your "gut" instinct. Sometimes it is better to allow the body some freedom from digesting solid food so energy can be devoted to repair and rehydration. To help this process we recommend Disodium Phosphate or Magnesium Lactate after treatment to relax the intestinal tract and increase natural elimination. The procedure also may remove some of the healthy bacterial flora that your colon needs, so replacement of this with a highly concentrated acidophilus/bifidus formula such as Pharmax Synbiotic Intensive daily probiotic powder can be helpful.

Restoring Bowel Flora...

After a series of colonics, it is important to restore your natural bowel flora levels, particularly if you have a history of candida or other body infections. Simply taking a flora concentrate as mentioned above, may not be enough. Try our amazing Five Day Protocol for Bacteria Bliss in the gut.

Five Day Protocol: Be sure to avoid yeast, sugar and starches and to try to have light meals on the days when taking herbs. We also highly recommend prebiotic foods such as: Jerusalem or Globe artichoke, onion, banana, okra, asparagus, leek, garlic, wheat and barley.

Day 1 & 2: Twice during the day away from food, take one to two cloves of crushed fresh garlic or 1-2 tablets of Garlic Complex and 1 tsp. Uva Ursi extract with a large amount of water. This moves the garlic quickly into the small intestines, and inhibits digestive action on the garlic in the stomach.

At another time during the day, take 1 Tbsp of Fiber Formula with a large amount of water which will expand in the intestinal tract and provide food for the healthy flora. This specialized fiber is considered a prebiotic. We also recommend adding to your fiber 1 tsp. of Slippery Elm Powder as a demulcent, emollient and a nutrient which soothes the intestinal tract and encourages the growth of beneficial bowel flora. Fiber Formula also helps to prevent pathogenic bacteria from adhering to the lining of the intestinal tract.

Day 3 - Take 1-2 tsp. of slippery elm powder with 1 Tbsp of Fiber Formula with a large amount of water.

Day 4 & 5 - Gradually introduce fresh food and continue with the slippery elm powder and intestinal fiber. Add 2 Vitanox before bed to begin to inhibit the regrowth of pathogens. Vitanox contains green tea extract which was found in a small study in Japan to "positively affect intestinal dysbiosis in nursing home patients by raising levels of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, lowering levels of Enterobacteriaceae and decreasing odorous compounds." Also take 2 tablets of Golden Seal before breakfast and again before dinner.

ISIS Colonoscopy Prep Program

Colonics is a wonderful way to prepare yourself for a bowel test. It removes all free-floating material and allows the walls of the colon to be more visible. Many of our clients have commented that by using our preparation instructions, their physicians noted how great their tests were!

Generally, in preparing for a bowel test, your physician will have you fast beginning the day before your test and take a laxative solution to clear out material from the upper and lower intestines. Many of these substances are synthetically derived and actually strip the intestinal tract of necessary flora and minerals. Also some people have allergic responses to these chemicals and need a more natural option. Our program provides a natural solution that can be done in conjunction with your doctor's recommended preparation or in place of it, as you choose. It must be begun one week prior to your test in order to be fully effective.

In our program: We replace the standard laxative formula from your physician with a more natural program of colonics, fiber and an intestinal stimulant. Colonics will actually cleanse the lining of the colon more effectively than the colonoscopy prep provided by the doctor alone. We also feel that Myofascial Release can help to relax the stomach and muscular area of the pelvis, so that you and your colon will be more relaxed for the procedure. This can be great the day before the test.

You will need: 1 canister of hypoallergenic Meta Fiber in powder form, 1 bottle of Colax intestinal stimulant, 1 bottle of Magnesium Lactate and 1 bottle of Pharmax Synbiotic Intensive probiotic intestinal flora.

Beginning one week prior to the test:

1) Fiber: take 1 tbsp. three times each day between meals or at least 30 minutes prior to meals.

2) Colax Intestinal Formula: take 1 tablet each morning and evening with your meal.

3) Eliminate red meat, bread, carbonated beverages and alcohol.

4) Have one colonic therapy session.

The day before the test:

1) Begin fasting according to your physician's instructions or directly after your colonic, whichever is earlier in the day.

2) Increase fiber to five times for the day, ending before 6:00 PM.

3) Increase Colax to 2 tablets in the morning and 2 tablets in the evening.

4) Have a colonic [alternatively, this may be done the morning of the test].

The day of the test:

1) Do not take any fiber today.

2) Take 2 tablets of Colax this morning.

After the test:

1) Take Pharmax Synbiotic Intensive probiotic daily with food for one week. Also take 2 Magnesium Lactate capsules with each meal for the same week to rehydrate your tissues.

If you have any questions in preparing for your bowel test, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Colonic Hydrotheraphy...

This is the treatment of choice that has provided incredible benefits to thousands of individuals throughout history. Colonics grew from the ancient practice of enemas, used in almost every culture to naturally cleanse the inside of the body and restore energy, balance and health to the body.

Today everyone from movie stars and models to athletes and executives, all utilize colonics as a natural method of cleansing the large intestines. The average individual should have at least one to two bowel movements each day, depending on the amount and frequency of food taken in. Bowel movements should be within 15 to 30 minutes after eating and should be easy, relatively quick and substantial. Material released should be light-colored, thick and break apart easily in water.

Normally, as the colon pushes semi-solid waste matter along, it transfers biochemical waste products out of the blood stream, and thus they are expelled from the system. Some of these natural by-products are poisonous, including ammonia, phenol, putresein, sepsin and cadeverin.

Poor colon hygiene causes the material to move sluggishly and form a stagnant lining in the colon, just like the pipes under your kitchen sink. This organic residue can remain for years unless removed, cutting back elimination of waste so that poisons remain in the blood stream. When sufficient protein and sugar are present, fermentation occurs. This produces even more toxins from which the body must defend itself. This condition can be worse if animal or dairy products, refined flour, sugar or alcohol are, or have been, habitually eaten. Under these conditions, the immune system is considerably strained.

Colon Dysfunction is usually first recognized by an individual as constipation or diarrhea, although there may have been signs for years. These signs may be accompanied by foul-smelling stool or gas, indicating a severe decaying of the material in the intestinal tract.

Colonic hydrotherapy not only can remove all of these toxic materials and restore normal cellular balance, but it can also provide resistance exercise of the muscles of the colonic wall, enhancing peristalsis and making bowel movements easier, more complete and more frequent. If our body muscles are weak, we strengthen them with exercise. Colon hydrotherapy does the same thing for your large intestine.

The Process of Colonics at ISIS...

In colonic hydrotherapy we use a sterile disposable two inch plastic scope that is inserted into the rectum. A small tube is attached to the outside of the scope and double-filtered water is introduced at body temperature into the large intestines gradually, while at the same time washing out loosened toxic material through a second larger waste tube into the septic system. This gentle washing cleanses the intestines of both old and new material, peeling layers of mucoid plaque and residue from the walls of the intestinal tract. The session lasts approximately 40 minutes, during which time, the client is reclined on a comfortable padded table, while the therapist skillfully massages the abdominal area to aid in the softening of impactions.

We are one of the few clinics in the United States that uses a natural gravity flow colonic system, which makes water available to the body as the body needs it throughout the session. It produces no external pressure, allowing for your body's natural rhythm to be used and strengthened while providing maximum comfort. So your colonic feels more natural because water is flowing into the body at the speed the colon allows. For this reason, many of our clients have said they strongly preferred the gravity-flow method to machine-administered colonics.

In autopsies on colons, seventy percent of the bodies had encrusted fecal matter, impactions and parasites. The importance of keeping our bodies clean inside as well as outside cannot be over-emphasized. You wash the outside of your body daily, and that is without swimming in a sewer. Just imagine how your skin would look if you never washed.

So if you think your colon is clean because of your bowel habits, then consider this: 98% of people have encrustation within their colon, 50% of those have parasitic infestation and 25% of these have up to eight pounds of undigested matter lining their colon. This may be a major reason why colon cancer ranks next to heart disease as the most frequent cause of death in the U.S. today.

Questions & Answers About Colonics ...

1. What is the colon?

The colon is the large intestine that extends from the cecum to the rectum. It is the source of absorption of electrolytes, such as calcium, phosphorus and sodium. It also allows the body to reabsorb water that can then be cleansed and recycled by the liver. It is approximately five feet in length and the adult can hold up to two quarts of liquid at any given time within the large intestine. A colonic treatment may reach the entire length of the large intestine providing a more thorough cleansing than an enema.

2. What is a normal bowel movement?

Therapists agree that the average adult should have two to three eliminations each day. They should be two to three inches in diameter and about six inches in length, light in color and pear-shaped. They should break apart easily in water and float. There should be no strain, and you should be able to actually feel the muscular contraction of your colon as you eliminate. So if you are eating three meals each day, and eliminating only once, it might be good to ask yourself where are the remains of the other two meals?

3. How are colonics different from enemas?

An enema is the introduction of a large quantity of water into the lower portion of the colon and held for a period of time, before being eliminated, thereby missing about four feet of colon. A colonic uses small amounts of water gradually over the course of the session, thus reducing any internal pressure common with an enema, and providing for simultaneous and continual release of softened material. Colonics actually stimulate the natural peristalsis, or muscular contraction of the intestines, whereas enemas prevent contraction of the intestines. Enemas can become addictive and your muscles over time can become dependent on the action of the enema. This is not true for colonics.

4. How are colonics different from laxatives?

Laxatives are considered to be an irritant to the body. They simply draw water from the body and produce a thin watery substance that clears only the most recently digested waste from the colon and leaves behind the impacted organic residue on the intestinal walls. Many physicians have concerns about the addictive nature of laxatives.

5. How do you know if you need colonics?

Almost anyone can benefit from some internal cleansing. Everyday our bodies are exposed to toxins and pollutants in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat. Our modern lifestyle has taken its toll on our digestive and eliminative organs. Refined, processed, low fiber foods, animal fats, a lack of exercise and ever-increasing levels of stress all contribute to our current health problems. When normal systems are underachieve, these toxins accumulate and create the necessary preconditions for disease in the body.

6. Should I be consulting my doctor?

You must get a physician's guidance if you have any acute debilitating medical condition, acute fecal impaction, acute colitis, active infection, severe hemorrhoids or a colostomy. Colonics are also not advisable while you are pregnant, particularly if you have never had one before.
Cancer of the colon or G.I. tract, active diverticulitis, acute abdominal pain, recent history of G.I. bleeding, severe cardiac disease or a recent heart attack, a history of severe renal problems or uncontrolled hypertension, are all indications for the advice of your physician. Please consult with your physician if you have any questions.

7. Is colonic hydrotherapy embarrassing or painful?

The procedure is not painful. Sometimes during the treatment there can be some discomfort, as when the muscles of the colon will contract suddenly producing a cramping sensation, accompanied by some nausea or numbness, but this will quickly pass, as the material is released. The scope that is inserted in the rectum is also very small, and generally feels perfectly comfortable. Hemorrhoids can cause some discomfort during insertion, so please notify your therapist if that is a concern.
Our treatments are designed to make the client as comfortable as possible, with maximum concern for modesty and sanitation. Except for the insertion of the scope, the client is completely covered during the entire procedure.

8. How many colonic hydrotherapy sessions will I need?

That is dependent on your goals. Most individuals require more than one session to remove all of the stagnant organic residue lining the colon. The majority of clients feel relief in one to three treatments, although it may take a number of sessions to completely alleviate toxicity. For this reason we provide a reduced price for a series of six treatments to enable the client to more comfortably afford to care for their body. Remember, colon problems tend to be the result of many years of improper diet and lack of exercise, and cannot be corrected in just one session.

9. How will I feel after my treatment?

How you feel will depend on the level of toxicity you maintain in your colon. If there are extensive amounts of toxicity, you may feel fatigued, slightly bloated or abdominally sore. However, this is not the general rule. Most people feel energized, lighter, thinner and amazingly relaxed. There is no problem with returning to your activities immediately after treatment.

10. What if I have my period?

There is no problem with receiving colonic hydrotherapy during your menstruation. However, we do ask that you remove any sanitary protection during the procedure, and then apply fresh protection following the treatment. Colonics are not advisable within two days of beginning your menstruation, as the uterus tends to swell, inhibiting release of material through the rectum. If you do have a tendency to feel uncomfortable during parts of your treatment, it will be more intense during your period, when your nervous system is more sensitive.

11. I have heard that colonics can injure my colon and remove all the healthy bacteria that are there?

Actually there is no physical way in which colonics with a gravity flow system can injure the colon. There also is no documented case anywhere in the world where the colon was damaged from any form of colonic hydrotherapy. As for the natural bacteria: your small intestines has the ability to reflorinate your large intestines unless you are already deficient in natural flora or the pH balance of your intestinal tract is a problem. We recommend following your session with one week of Pharmax Synbiotic Intensive probiotic. It is a wonderful concentrated powder form of bacteria taken once each day for seven days.
